Maximizing Therapeutic Value of Medicinal Herbs
Medicinal herbs get their therapeutic properties through plant phytochemicals, and the quality of an herb is dependent on the concentration of specific phytochemicals present in its plant matter.  Plant chemistry is highly influenced by growing conditions – climate, soil quality, light, water, etc; therefore, providing optimal conditions to maximize active phytochemical constituents results in herbs with stronger medicinal properties.  This talk will provide guidelines for growing, harvesting, and storing quality herbs for maximum therapeutic value.  Examples of specific, easy-to-grow backyard herbs and their active constituents will also be discussed.
